Four questions on OU football
Two coaches saved Oklahoma in the BCS by giving the Sooners first-place votes in the coaches poll. That helped OU stay ahead of Texas in the coaches poll by a single point. Who were these two coaches?

Because the votes are kept secret until the final ballots are submitted next Sunday, we may never know.

But here’s a guess: Texas Tech’s Mike Leach and Nebraska’s Bo Pelini, two former assistants under Bob Stoops who were blown out by the Sooners this season and had votes in the coaches poll. Leach said after his team’s 65-21 loss to OU that he would vote the Sooners ahead of Texas.

Another possibility is South Carolina’s Steve Spurrier, who was the head coach at Florida when Stoops was the

OU Sooners bask in the glow of more BCS love
0 minutes ago
Oklahoma fans are like most college football fans. They loved to bash the BCS. The Bowl Championship Series is the biggest punching bag in sports. But Sooner fans should have a soft spot in their part for the system that for 10 years has picked the teams for big-time football?s two-team championship game. The BCS has been very, very good to Oklahoma. The BCS on Sunday broke the three-way tie among OU, Texas Tech and Texas for the Big 12 South Division title. The Sooners are ranked No. 2 in the BCS, ahead of No. 3 Texas and No. 7 Tech, so OU will play Missouri on Saturday night in Kansas City, Mo., for the Big 12 title. OU coach Bob Stoops said he woke up Sunday morning with a ?knot in my stomach. I had to remind myself we won last

Time for Sooner fans, nerds to hug it out
0 minutes ago
Have you hugged a nerd today? Well, Sooner fans, you need to. Because without those computer jockeys, your favorite team would be spending the weekend doing its Christmas shopping instead of dancing the cha-cha with Missouri on the way to the national title game. Yep, all those guys who spent summer at computer camp learning Fortran instead of out-routes and defensive formations are the MVPs of this season?s BCS race.

OU football notebook: Bradford has torn ligaments in left hand
0 minutes ago
Bradford has torn ligaments in left hand Quarterback Sam Bradford has torn ligaments in the thumb of his non-throwing hand and will have surgery after the Big 12 Championship game, coach Bob Stoops said Sunday.

Bradford suffered the injury on OU’s third series of Saturday’s game at Oklahoma State. That forced the Sooner offense to operate primarily out of the shotgun the rest of the game.

Stoops said Bradford will wear a soft cast in the Big 12 title game against Missouri. The surgery shouldn’t preclude him from playing in OU’s bowl game.

Bradford’s play didn’t seem to be affected by the injury against OSU.

He completed 30 of 44 passes for 370 yards and four TDs in OU’s 61-41

Politicking doesn’t save Texas in BCS standings
0 minutes ago
NORMAN — Last week, BCS independent analyst Jerry Palm gave Oklahoma a "90 percent” chance of passing Texas in the BCS rankings with a win over Oklahoma State.

Palm, however, didn’t factor in the University of Texas temporarily organizing into a political machine that could’ve toppled the Democratic Party.

Texas’ campaign, spearheaded by coach Mack Brown, to remind BCS voters about the Longhorns’ 45-35 victory over OU on Oct. 11 and sway voter opinion worked to perfection.

Even though OU beat the No. 12-ranked Cowboys by 20 points in Stillwater, the human polls inexplicably punished the Sooners while rewarding Texas for defeating the worst team in the Big 12 at home.

Texas flipped voters, but flopped with computers

NORMAN ? Last week, BCS independent analyst Jerry Palm gave Oklahoma a ?90 percent? chance of passing Texas in the BCS rankings with a win over Oklahoma State. Palm, however, didn't factor in Texas temporarily organizing into a political machine that could've toppled the Democratic National Party. Texas' campaign, spearheaded by coach Mack Brown, to remind BCS voters about the Longhorns' 45-35 victory over OU on Oct. 11 and sway voter opinion worked to perfection. Even though OU beat the No. 12-ranked Cowboys by 20 points in Stillwater, the human polls inexplicably punished the Sooners while rewarding Texas for defeating the worst team in the Big 12 at home. Sam Bradford living in a dream world
0 minutes ago
STILLWATER — Nothing rattled Sam Bradford for nearly four hours Saturday evening.

Blitzing defenders?

No problem.

National championship pressures? Big 12 title game questions? Ever-changing defenses?

No worries.

Teeth-rattling, somersault-inducing hits?

Little league stuff, he says.

No doubt you’ve already marveled about it, discussed it, maybe even YouTubed it. It is Bradford’s Heisman highlight. It is The Play.

His team leading by only four points and his offense facing a long third-and-goal Saturday night, the Oklahoma quarterback scrambled right and headed down the sideline. Nearing the goal line, he dove.

A couple of Oklahoma State defenders did the same.

The collision sent

Longhorns’ reaction to BCS standings: Mack Brown releases statement
0 minutes ago
Brown releases statement "I’m really disappointed for our kids that two teams we beat this season will be playing for the Big 12 Championship. I’ll try to explain it to them, but most importantly, my message will be that you’ve done enough to put yourself in position to play for the conference championship, you had a great season and there still is a lot out there for you to play for.

We’ll wait and see how everything plays out and where the system sends us, then be ready to play our best game of the year wherever that is.

OU men's basketball: Still room for improvement
0 minutes ago
Leave it to Blake Griffin to add some levity to No. 11-and-rising Oklahoma’s most promising beginning under Jeff Capel — and the basketball program’s best start since 2003-04.

The Sooners are 6-0 and already own wins over two Top 25 teams, yet Griffin sees the warts along with the beauty marks.

"I think we’re right where we need to be right now,” Griffin said, "but we can’t settle.

"We need to keep improving.”

And the best news for the Sooners: they can improve, dramatically.

For your consideration:

→OU’s guards haven’t yet found their perimeter stroke. Cade Davis has been clutch off the bench, knocking down 13-of-31 shots from beyond the arc.

OU men's basketball notebook: The Trojans are coming
0 minutes ago
The Trojans are coming OU returns home from its two games at Madison Square Garden for another marquee matchup, facing Southern Cal on Thursday at Lloyd Noble Center.

The Trojans are 4-2 entering a matchup with San Francisco tonight in Los Angeles.

USC’s losses are to Seton Hall and Missouri in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.

While the Trojans lost O.J. Mayo, the third pick in the NBA Draft, they were ranked No. 18 to open the season.

ON THE LINE The Sooners are shooting just 68.2 percent from the foul line. Misses late against Purdue prevented them from clinching victory in regulation, although they made several key free throws in overtime.

"It is a concern,” said OU coach Jeff Capel, "but I have
